Turkey prays for Japan

Yesterday (11/03/2011), an earthquake struck Japan killing more than 600 people with 10,000 people missing. In this times of tragedy, sometimes prayer is the best we can offer to people who are far away from us and yet we feel them as our brothers and sisters.

Turkey and Japan share a deep historical, emotional and linguistic bond. I've long considered the Japanese people as my brothers and sisters and this tragedy is our tragedy as well. I pray to God that the tragedy stops here and that the missing people will reach their families safe and sound.

[This megathrust earthquake of magnitude 8.9 created tsunami waves of up to 10 meters (33 ft). The earthquake hypocenter was reported to be off the Oshika Peninsula, the east coast of Tōhoku on 11 March 2011, at 5:46 UTC (14:46 local time) at a depth of 24.4 kilometers (15.2 mi). News reports by Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) indicate that more than 637 people have died and another 10,000 are missing in six different prefectures.
